Safaato’a (To’a) Fereti, Acting Chair of the Nursing Council of New Zealand, announced today the appointment of Catherine Byrne to the role of Chief Executive/Registrar of the Nursing Council of New Zealand.

Catherine comes to the role of Chief Executive/Registrar with an impressive background of practical nursing experience and a strong interest and knowledge of the NZ nursing regulatory environment.

Catherine has held senior nursing management and leadership roles nationally.  She is currently the Director of Nursing, Taranaki District Health Board.  In her leadership roles Catherine has driven a range of successful projects to protect patient safety and optimise professional nursing standards.

As a previous Board Member of the Nursing Council of NZ, Catherine has also developed strong working relationships with our key stakeholders and Nursing Council staff.  Catherine has resigned from the Board of the Nursing Council. The Board is very confident that Catherine will be an excellent leader of the Nursing Council of New Zealand and are positive that with her leadership we will build on the constructive changes made to the organisation over the past few years.
