Strike action - information for nurses

11 July 2018

It is your personal decision whether or not to work if a nurses strike goes ahead. You should be especially mindful to work within your scope of practice during the strike, as exceptional circumstances will be present.

All practising nurses are required to hold an Annual Practising Certificate as outlined on this page:  http://www.nursingcouncil.org.nz/Nurses/Annual-practising-certificates.  This assures the public that they are competent to practise nursing.  Some nurses hold their APC on the basis of meeting competencies for their practice in management, education, research, policy and administration which has an impact on public safety.  These nurses have not been assessed against their competence to use their nursing knowledge in direct relationship with health consumers.

If you have questions or concerns about the strike, please get in touch with us on (04) 385 9589. We have staff dedicated to answering your questions on this issue.
