Dr Margaret Southwick (Tuvalu/Pakeha) was first appointed to the Council in 2002 and was re-appointed by the Minister of Health in September 2011. Margaret is the Dean of Health, Education and Social Science at Whitireia Community Polytechnic and was previously a senior lecturer at the Graduate School of Nursing, Victoria University of Wellington and (concurrently) the Director of the Pacific Health Research Centre at Whitireia. Margaret has been involved with a number of community development initiatives and has made substantial contributions to the health needs of Pacific people, as a mentor for Pacific community organisations.
