Competence assessment programmes

Internationally qualified nurses applying for registration in New Zealand may be required to successfully complete a competence assessment programme to demonstrate their ability to meet the competencies for their scope of practice. New Zealand nurses who have been out of practice for five years or more are also required under the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 to complete a competence assessment programme prior to being issued with a practising certificate.

Competency Assessment Programmes are offered by an accredited service provider or jointly by an accredited service provider and school of nursing.
