International Nurses Day 12 May 2020

12 May 2020

Tēnā koutou katoa, Talofa lava,

International Nurses Day is an opportunity to acknowledge and thank nurses for their unique and collective contribution to the health and well-being of New Zealanders. The COVID 19 pandemic could not have highlighted this year's theme of 'Nurses: A voice to Lead - Nursing the World to Health' more clearly. The pandemic presents some extraordinary challenges, that nurses have risen to, and will continue to meet to ensure the public receive the best care possible.

Thank you to those of you that have rejoined the workforce to assist during the COVID 19 pandemic. The current health crisis has drawn a sharp focus on the courageous and irreplaceable work of nurses globally. Nurses have articulated more powerfully in their everyday work the message of the vital role they play in providing health services.

Stay safe, be proud of the care you provide and the difference every day you make.

Please take time during the day to celebrate your achievements and the nursing legacy that you are providing.

Kia kaha, Kia ora, Kia manawanui.
