Message from the National Nurse Leaders Group

24 August 2021

From Sunday  26 September 2022 the Government no longer requires nurses to follow the mandatory vaccination requirements. The Nursing Council is maintaining this page as a historical record only. Please note that an individual employer might still have vaccination requirements and is permitted to ask about your vaccination status. If you are not vaccinated we recommend that you discuss this with any potential employers.

Tēnā koutou ngā neehi, ngā kaimahi hauora o te motu nei.

The National Nurse Leaders Group (NNLG)  is critically aware of the pressure under which many if not all nurses are working at present.
The advent of another outbreak places all of you wherever you work under considerable strain.  For nurses the challenges are multiple and include  co-ordinating,  planning and leading services, delivering usual care with levels of short staffing and altered circumstances, and stepping up into testing, vaccinating and contact tracing. Patients and communities are also stressed and  require more time, care and patience. On top of all of this is the added stress of families out of school or working from home or elderly parents requiring additional support. Thank you for all that you do.
