How to update your browser

Google Chrome
  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, look at More More.
  3. If an update is pending, the icon will be coloured:
    • Green: An update was released less than 2 days ago.
    • Orange: An update was released about 4 days ago.
    • Red: An update was released at least a week ago.
 

To update Google Chrome:

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More More.
  3. Click Update Google Chrome.
    • Important: If you can't find this button, you're on the latest version.
  4. Click Relaunch.

Microsoft Edge

Update once

In the browser, go to Settings > About Microsoft Edge (edge://settings/help).

  1. If the About page shows Microsoft Edge is up to date, you don't need to do anything.
  2. If the About page shows an update is available, select Download and install to proceed. Microsoft Edge will download the update an apply it the next time you restart Microsoft Edge. Note that if you're on cellular network, downloading the update may incur charges.
  3. If the About page shows To finish updating, restart Microsoft Edge, select Restart. The update is already downloaded and all you need to do is restart the browser for it to be applied.

Always stay up to date 

We recommend that you always stay up to date to keep your browser secure and working properly. In the browser, go to Settings > About Microsoft Edge (edge://settings/help). Depending on where you purchased your device, you may see one or both of following toggles:

  • Download and install updates automatically

  • Download updates over metered connections.

Firefox
  1. Click the menu button Fx89menuButton, click Help and select About Firefox.
  2. The About Mozilla Firefox window opens. Firefox will check for updates and, if an update is available, it will be downloaded automatically by default.
  3. When the download is complete, click Restart to update Firefox.

Safari
  1. On the desktop, click on the Apple logo in the top left of the screen. Then click on ‘System Preferences.’
  2. Click on ‘Software Update,’ which is represented with a gear icon.
  3. Your computer will automatically check for any available updates.
  4. If there are any upgrades available, click on ‘Upgrade Now’ to make the updates. If it is an OS update, this will automatically update your Safari browser.

How to Update Safari on Mac on Older OS

Next, let us look at the steps to update Safari on OS High Sierra or older.

  1. Go to the App Store. The App Store can be accessed by clicking on the Apple icon on your desktop in the top left corner.
  2. Click on the ‘Updates’ section to see all your apps that have updates available.
  3. Look for Safari in the list and click on ‘Update.’ If Safari does not show on this list, then there is no update currently available for it.
Opera
  1. Launch the Opera browser on your computer.
  2. Click on the Opera  for menu options.
  3. Hit on Update & Recovery… command.
  4. The Opera Update and Recovery window will open and start checking for updates.
  5. Updates will be automatically installed if any available.

These above steps work in both Windows OS and any Linus OS. The only difference in macOS is that the Update & Recovery option is command is available under the menu bar.
